The 5th Conference on Emerging Technologies – EMiT2019 University of Huddersfield - 9th to 11th April 2019, The Oastler Building

Computational hardware is changing rapidly. Two decades ago, all we needed to know was the speed of upcoming hardware, not its form or the state of its software frameworks. This is no longer true with new and novel highly parallel computing architectures being unveiled continuously. This forces important questions about re-coding and future proofing existing scientific software. Emerging technologies describes this continual change of hardware and algorithms, and EMiT – through international conferences, workshops and community fora – is here to help everybody make optimal use of these.

EMiT2019 will take place at The University of Huddersfield on 9-11 April 2019.

It will include a day long training session on exciting emerging topics such as Quantum Computing and Machine Learning and then a packed two day programme of invited and submitted talks.

Keynote speakers

Three key note presentations confirmed for EMiT 2019: Professor Veljko Milutinovic from Indiana University, Bloomington will be discussing "DataFlow SuperComputing for Big Data Analytics".  Joining him will be Dr Peter Hopton, the founder of ICEOTOPE liquid cooling technologies and Dr Torsten Hoefler from ETH Zurich.

Professor Veljko Milutinovic

Department of Computer Science, Indiana University, Bloomington, IND, USA.
Life Fellow of The IEEE
The Treasurer of The Academy of Europe, HQ London UK
Member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia
Foreign Member of the Montenegro National Academy of Sciences and Arts
In 2014 he received The IET Computers & Digital Techniques Premium Award for the best journal paper.

Unique aims and scope

The EMiT (EMerging Technology) conference series brings together experts from all areas of computing to examine how to best take advantage of the changing landscape of computer hardware.  The conference aims to overcome research barriers for fields such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computational mechanics, life sciences, and financial modelling. Building on the successes of EMiT@CIUK 2017, EMiT2016, EMiT2015 and EMiT2014, the next EMiT conference will continue to provide a platform for the cutting edge in computing technologies as well as broaden its international reach.

EMiT has the following objectives:

  • to identify latest trends in hardware development for novel computing;
  • to share how best to exploit Emerging Tech for application;
  • to focus on new techniques, their development and transfer to new areas.

With device-independent compilers and high-level languages, to low power and energy efficient computing being applied to ever changing hardware and numerical algorithms for industrial and academic use, EMiT brings all they key organisations and developers together.
