Addressing Barriers to the Long-Term Sustainability of Community Gardens: Workshop & Design Charrette 

A co-design and community engagement workshop was organised at the University of Huddersfield campus to further refine a practical design for the shelter on the Peace Pit Community Garden site, which would address the needs of the growing group while keeping within the constraints of the waste materials proposed for upcycling.

Peace Pit Growing Space Site Visit and Meeting 

The research team from University of Huddersfield, including Dr. Yun Gao, Prof Adrian Pitts and Dr. Manas Murthy, members of the Peace Pit growing space, along with members from NaturalKirklees and Support2Recovery (S2R) reviewed plans for the proposed shelter and intervention at the community garden.

Climate Impacts in the Community 

The exhibition showcased understandings of the relationship between cultures of place, healthy living environments and climate change. One section showed challenges associated with lighting, temperature, and humidity in people's home and their neighbourhood. The second section explored how buildings and interiors relate to lived experiences.

Workshop on Climate Change and Public Engagement 

The workshop titled "Public Engagement and Climate Change" was organized with the aim of fostering dialogue and sharing experiences among attendees from diverse nationalities and refugee backgrounds.

Place-based Sustainable Living

The 'Place-Based Sustainable Living', held in collaboration with the IDL Design Accelerator, sought to examine the intersection of community, environment, and sustainability.

17 November, 2022 Micro-climate urban design for better urban living in high density cities

Organised by SLRC, this lecture is by one of the School's international collaborators - Prof Edward Ng from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Edward has a very distinguished international reputation and one of his other projects won World Building of the Year in 2017.

28 June 2022 Architecture and Built Environment that Support Sustainable Living Exhibition

The exhibition concerned with diversity of living experience, heritage, tourism and zero-carbon approaches. Too often sustainability is seen as restricting human feature development when it should be embraced as a new opportunity to link research to users/stakeholders through knowledge transfer and feedback loops.
