Lecture 1 Synopsis

Professor George Bearfield - A Life(cycle) in Railway Risk

Professor George Bearfield draws from over 20 years of experience in rail to explain how a lifecycle for railway risk ensures peoples safety on the railways. He will focus on a systems engineering approach from concept through operation and maintenance to decommissioning. Professor Bearfield will also present his views as to how these concepts extrapolate forward into the behaviours and technology of digital railway of the future, and highlight some of the benefits and risks of this future railway.

Lecture 2 Synopsis

Professor Coen van Gulijk - Changing the face of safety

Professor Coen van Gulijk explains how safety delivery is changing due to the introduction of Digital Enterprise Systems. He will explore the merger of traditional risk trade-offs with artificial intelligence, advanced business process modelling, incessant data feeds and social media. Professor Van Gulijk will describe how a new breed of safety scientists will change the face of safety.
