Become a Visiting Scholar or Visiting Research Student

We welcome applications from academics at other universities who wish to spend time at Huddersfield as a Visiting Scholar or Visiting Research Student.

VISITING SCHOLAR

If you are applying as an independent Visiting Scholar, we charge a fee of £1000 for a three month period, £2000 for a six month period and £3000 for a twelve month period. This fee covers full access to the University’s library and electronic resources for the period in which you are a visitor, as well as entitling you to work space, access to the department’s Linguistics Library, software and other resources, and the opportunity to attend any undergraduate and postgraduate classes in Linguistics and Modern Languages. As a Visiting Scholar, you will be assigned a member of staff from the department who will act as your main point of contact throughout your stay. You may wish to discuss your proposed visit with a member of staff informally before submitting your application.

VISITING RESEARCH STUDENT

If you are a PhD student at another university and wish to receive supervision whilst in Huddersfield, we charge a fee of £3000 per term. This fee covers full access to the University’s library and electronic resources for the period in which you are a visitor, as well as entitling you to work space, access to the department’s Linguistics Library, software and other resources, and the opportunity to attend any undergraduate and postgraduate classes in Linguistics and Modern Languages. You will also be assigned a supervisor for the duration of your stay, from whom you will receive one-to-one supervision. You may wish to discuss your proposed visit with a member of staff informally before submitting your application.

N.B. If you are a PhD student and would like to visit Huddersfield but do not require PhD supervision during your stay, please apply as a Visiting Scholar.
