Biography

Position: Senior Lecturer in Operations Management, Department of Logistics, Operations, Hospitality and Marketing
Qualifications: MA

 

Jim joined the University in 2012 following a successful career in the NHS. After an initial career with the private sector working for GE in call centre environments, Jim gained experience in all areas of healthcare through successfully redesigning patient pathways of care across the Bradford and Airedale Health Economy for many years.

 

Knowledge transfer has always been of interest to Jim and he has led many successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. He was awarded the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Knowledge Transfer Partnership prize for the Best Application of Social or Management Science and the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) Best Partnership Award, North East England. These awards recognisethe most innovation-led successful research partnerships.

Research and Scholarship

Jim’s research has focussed on operations improvement strategies, the application of Operations Management theories in the service sector, strategic organisational change, leadership and organisational culture.

Jim's PhD research is focused on innovation in the health sector, in particular how organisations become aware of new ideas and technologies and the systems in place to exploit these opportunities.

In addition to this Jim is actively involved in research projects in the public sector and rail industries.

Esteem

Jim is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an invited member of the Business School's Enterprise Group, and an Honorary Fellow of the Manchester Business School in recognition of his sustained successes with their Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.

Research Degree Supervision

Areas of research that Jim is interested in include Process Improvement, Operations Management, Change Management, Orgainsational Culture and Service Innovation.

Enterprise Activities

Jim is an active member of the Business Schools Enterprise Committee and delivers on the Magnificent Seven Programme.
