Biography

Adriana joined the University of Huddersfield in 2008 as a Research Fellow. Her expertise is in the target and shielding design for various accelerator facilities. She worked on the muon and neutron target upgrade for the ISIS facility in the UK and magnet and beam dump activation for the European Spallation Source in Sweden.

Adriana is currently the target and shielding package leader for the Daedalus/Isodar neutrino experiment whose ultimate goal is to search for evidence of CP violation. This project is lead by the Massachusetts Institute and Technology in the US and is a collaboration of several laboratories and universities from the US, Italy, Switzerland, Japan and Canada.  She is working on the target and shielding design and radiation protection.

Prior to Huddersfield, Adriana worked at the University of Leeds for the ISIS muon target  and University of Manchester and Cockcroft Institute where she was involved in the design of beam collimators and wakefield studies for the beam delivery systems of linear colliders.

Research and Scholarship

For the Isodar neutrino experiment that will be built in Kamland, Japan, Adriana’s primary objectives are to design an efficient and reliable target.The antineutrino production needs to be maximised for the physics studies and she also needs to address all engineering aspects of the target in collaboration with Fermilab. Adriana is  the author of the target/shielding chapter of the “ISODAR Conceptual Design Report for the Technical Facility”.

For the muon/neutron experiments, Adriana’s goal is to provide the large muon and neutron community with high intensity muon and neutron beams, thereby opening the doors to new science. She is currently investigating the technology of methods of increasing muon beam intensities at muon facilities. A substantial gain can be achieved through appropriate optimisation of pion targets and collection geometries.

Adriana is the Huddersfield University PI for the STFC grant “Continuation of Generic High Power Target Studies” which relates to the power upgrade of the current neutron target at the ISIS facility at Rutherford Laboratory.

Teaching and Professional Activities

Adriana is teaching a course for the Master Degree students “Beam Interactions with Matter” (NME3573-1516). She is also a physics tutor for the Foundation Year course “Scientific Ideas and Practice” (SPX1001).

At the University of Manchester Adriana worked as a tutor in mathematics and a physics laboratory demonstrator.
