Biography

I joined the University in October 2014 as Reader in Fashion & Textiles. I moved from the School of Design, University of Leeds where I held a Lectureship in Fashion Marketing and programme manager for the BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing programme. Prior to this I was a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Marketing in the Hollings Faculty at Manchester Metropolitan University. Before undertaking my degrees later in life as a mature student I was self-employed running companies including a bespoke bridal wear design, manufacturing and retailing enterprise and a hand and machine knitting retail outlet with a knitwear design division.

Research and Scholarship

I am currently involved in research involving the accurate simulation of costume in collaboration with the Museum of London and research in the area of pattern cutting focusing on the development of malleable dress stands. My work on colour forecasting and mood boards continues. Further interests include the vintage trend particularly the retailing and marketing of second-hand products. An interesting off-shoot of this is price psychology and auction psychology / the auction culture in relation to second-hand. My personal interests include antiques and traditional upholstery, I continually seek opportunities to bring these interests into research opportunities.
