Luis Rubio studied Engineering and Pure Physics in Spain, getting a MEng. in Electronics (2001) at the University of the Basque Country and MSci. in Physics (2003) at the University of Cantabria in Spain.

He always combined his studies with non-technical jobs ranged from operator in manufacturing chains to stagehand in Operas.  Also, he completed his university studies with some courses focused on Industry such as Systems Administrator, Web Pages Programmer or Programmable Logic Controllers.

In 2002, Luis got a Basque Country Government grant and joined Ideko S.Coop. getting there his first contact in manufacturing environments focused on research. After a year in Ideko, he came back to the Basque Country University to develop his PhD entitled “Adaptive Control in Pareto Optimal working points through an Expert System in Milling processes” .  

While getting his PhD, Luis enjoyed a stage at Profactor Gmbh in Seibersdorf –Austria and, worked as Research Assistant and Consulting Engineer at Innovalia Association in the Basque Country. After completed his PhD, he decided to start his career in UK and got his first Research Fellow position at the University of Nottingham in 2010. Currently, he joined to the Centre for Precision Technologies at the University of Huddersfield in February of 2012, also, as Research Fellow.

Teaching and Professional Activities

Luis has experience in industry and academia, and was involved in several Research Projects supported by Spanish’s and Basque’s Ministries of Science and Technology and European Commission ( Sixth and Seventh Framework programmes), all related with the fields of Adaptive Control and Manufacturing Systems, such as Coordinated Measuring Machines and, Milling and Assembly Processes in conventional and micro scales. Also, he has background as Consulter Engineer. In academia, Luis has more than ten years of experience in teaching Mathematics, Physics and Control Systems.
