A first degree in Management and Technology that reflects an early profession I entered on leaving school (design engineering) and indeed I still am a Chartered Engineer. My post graduate thesis was “Quality in Higher Education and it’s impact on Organisational Structure and Process” to be followed more recently by an MSc in Human Resource Management as part of a current professional development programme.
After leaving secondary school served an engineering apprenticeship and went into the design office and later became Production Manager prior to exiting industry. Qualified as a teacher in 1974. Entered the teaching profession in 1975 with a lecturing post in further education in a college in Manchester, later moving to Cranfield University based at the Royal Military College of Science in Shrivenham, Wiltshire. Joined HUBS in 1994 with a Senior Lectureship in Organisational Behaviour.
Former Head of the Undergraduate Division/Team Leader in the Department of Leadership and Management within HUBS. Semi-retired in 2010, but still managing an international programme in the general area of business management and administration in Hong Kong.
Main subject areas are; Operations management, Managing Innovation and Change, Organisational Behaviour and Systems. Principal research areas are in performance management (a systems approach), managerial control and continuous improvement in a service operations context. Whilst at Cranfield University I had extensive consultancy and short course delivery experience to reinforce the above.
