Biography

Position: Head of Department, Department of Logistics, Operations, Hospitality and Marketing
Qualifications: BE(Mech), MMS, MSc(CIM), PhD, FHEA, FCILT

Samir S Dani joined the Business School in Feb 2014 as Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Prior to joining academia, Samir’s mechanical engineering background led him to work in the Indian automotive industry for five years. He completed his PhD at the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing, Loughborough University, exploring buyer-supplier relationships within a psychological perspective. In 2005, he joined the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing as Lecturer in Manufacturing Organisation, and in September 2008 left to join the School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University as Senior Lecturer in Operations Management.

Samir has experience of leading and working on various EPSRC projects in a diverse range of management issues from supply chain alignment to leadership to e-commerce. Samir has received nearly £600k in research funding from EPSRC (First Grant, INTERACT call 5), IMCRC, KTP, and from other sources for funding EngDoc and PhD students.

Samir has experience in teaching a wide variety of management topics at UG, PG, MBA and Exec education levels. He has been an external examiner at the University of Hull, University of Liverpool, Cardiff University, Heriot Watt and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China.

Research and Scholarship

Samir’s research interests include supply chain and logistics management (risk, resilience and sustainability), food supply chains, operations management, systems engineering, human behaviour, and new business models. He supervises PhD and EngDoc students in these areas.

Samir has published journal articles, conference contributions, book chapters and reports. He has presented widely to both academic and practitioner audiences. He has recently published a book ‘Food Supply Chain Management and Logistics’. This book received the 2015 Prix des Associations prize at the Les Plumes Des Achats & Supply Chain awards in Paris.
