Liz joined The University of Huddersfield in April 2014 and is a Senior Lecturer in HRM/D. She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.
Liz has considerable experience of working in HR, in both Senior HR Business Partner generalist roles and also Learning & Development policy roles, having worked for 17 years in the Retail Industry. She first graduated from the University of Hull (Business Studies and French) and subsequently joined Tesco’s graduate scheme. She was appointed to various operational roles in stores, culminating in a Head Office post as Project Manager responsible for the rollout of Change Management projects across 800 stores during a period of significant culture change for Tesco.
Following achievement of her MA in HRM from the Manchester Metropolitan University, Liz continued to work in HR roles in Retail, including leading the HR Shared Services team and HR Business Partner to Head Office support functions at Woolworths.
Before joining the University of Huddersfield, Liz worked for Asda where she joined as HR Business Partner for Retail Operations and Property teams and latterly led the Learning & Development team, responsible for the development of 170,000 colleagues across Asda. In this role, Liz led the UK stream of a global Walmart project to provide industry-leading development for the Buying Teams. She also launched a People Academy within the HR Function, which included a CIPD qualification for Store HR Managers, an HR Business Partner upskilling programme and an online Academy resource, in addition to the implementation of a learning management system and online e-learning programmes for Head Office and Logistics Managers as part of the Asda Training Academy.

Liz is an accredited practitioner in Strengthscope, a strengths-based leadership assessment and development tool and an accredited personal coach
Liz is currently studying for her PhD at Bradford University School of Management exploring how HR practitioners experience emotions in their working lives. She is also interested in visual research methods and Talent Management.

Liz supervises dissertations for both undergraduate and Master’s students covering a broad range of HR and business management topics.
Liz is a member of the Business School Enterprise group where she represents the Department of Management.
Liz has delivered courses for HR Professionals at Royal Mail and Zarafa Holdings focusing on Change Management.
Liz is a member of School Board where she represents the Department of Management.
Liz also supports teaching of other modules across the HR suite of courses and has a keen interest in personal development, change management, talent management and leadership development.
