Dr Chris Retzler is a Lecturer in Psychology at the School of Human and Health Sciences, University of Huddersfield.Chris received his PhD from the University of Nottingham for research into EEG measures of learning in smokers supervised by Dr Lee Hogarth. This was followed by research associate positions at the University of Nottingham and the University of Glasgow with Dr Marios Philiastides, working on the spatiotemporal characteristics of decision making using concurrent fMRI/EEG measures. Chris is happy to supervise projects in the area of cognitive psychology or neuroscience including individual differences, behaviour, addiction or learning using cognitive neuroscience tasks or methods.

Research and Scholarship

University research group memberships

Chris is on the management team for the Centre for Applied Psychological and Health Research.

Research interests:

  • Chris utilises a range of neuroimaging techniques to better understand the brain, with a focus on learning and decision making. He is currently working on a range of projects including:
  • Investigating the spatiotemporal characteristics of decision making using concurrent fMRI/EEG measures
  • Combining behavioural paradigms with EEG to investigate the underlying mechanisms involved in addiction
  • Exploring the resting state EEG of smokers
  • Exploring new approaches to smoking cessation
  • The effects of stress on smoking and inhibition
