Ahmed gained a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt in June 2004. He started his academic career in 2005 as an Assistant Lecturer in Alexandria University. He completed his MSc in 2008 with research in air conditioning systems energy consumption for efficient design.

In December 2012, Ahmed finished his PhD at the Universty of Birmingham, UK. The research topic was the development of sustainable and efficient adsorption cooling systems. The PhD program was funded by University of Birmingham, EPSRC and Weatherite Holdings Limited. During his doctoral degree he worked as a part time lecturing assistant in the School of Mechanical Engineering. After finishing the PhD programme, Ahmed worked as an Assistant Professor of Thermofluidics in Alexandria University. In February 2015, Ahmed Joined Turbocharger Institute as a research fellow.

Ahmed has delivered a number of R&D projects including the evaluation of an Eco-Stove to replace hot water radiator systems in the UK (sponsored by Landy Vent and University of Birmingham) and the design and commercialsation of a 3TR silica gel / water adsorption chiller (sponsored by Bry-Air Asia).
