David is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing and is Recruitment/Admissions Tutor for Business Studies undergraduate programmes. He has a BA(Hons) degree in Marketing (Engineering), an MA in Professional Development (Higher Education Practice) and is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is currently undertaking a PhD by part-time study. He started his career in the computing and communications industries, working in strategic marketing planning and technical sales roles, before joining the University as a lecturer in 1990. He is one of the longest serving and most experienced members of staff in the Department of Strategy, Marketing and Economics, and has developed and taught a wide range of modules for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He developed and led the unique BA(Hons) Marketing with Innovation degree.
David’s research interests are in the areas of consumer behaviour, higher education practice, creativity and innovation management. He has undertaken research into consumer co-production, marketisation of higher education, student engagement, collaborative innovation and technology adoption and diffusion in banking and retailing.

David is often asked by the media to comment on a range of marketing, retail and consumer behaviour-related issues and news stories. He makes regular appearances on Radio and Television as well as contributing to press articles and blogs.
David has been involved in knowledge transfer partnerships. In 2009, he completed a partnership as the Knowledge Base Supervisor which was rated as ‘very good’. This was with Robinson Design Group, an architectural/design practice, based in Shipley. The project was to develop a marketing information system to handle a diverse range of contact information and key account history, with the aim of improving the efficiency of the company’s bid targeting and preparation acitivities.
David is the Recruitment/Admissions Tutor for Business Studies Undergraduate Programmes.
David is currently Module Leader of the Marketing Analysis, Customer Insight and Consumer Behaviour modules. He also teaches Marketing and the Management of Innovation at the Hong Kong Management Association and supervises a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. He has prior experience of teaching several other modules, such as Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Managing and Communicating Brands and Contemporary Media Analysis. He also has experience as an external examiner at the universities of Staffordshire and Middlesex.
