Biography

I joined the University of Huddersfield in November 2014 as a Research Administrator in the School of Human and Health Sciences. I provide support for PGRs and academic staff within the school, as well as secretarial support for the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention.

Research and Scholarship

I commenced PhD study at the University of Huddersfield in September 2016 under the supervision of Jane Tobbell and Chris Gifford. A qualitative approach is taken with a focus on exploring the experiences of students who are the first in their family to enter Higher Education. Drawing on Capital Theory, I will investigate how students invest and reproduce their capital and identity in order to enact success within this environment.

Prior to this, I completed my BA and MA in Sociology at Lancaster University. Here I was actively engaged in my own, as well as collaborative, research in the social sciences. My research focus during this time was the prevalence of social class in youth social groups and the perpetuation of social inequalities in Higher Education.
