Glynis joined the Business School in 1994 having previously worked in international business and marketing within the engineering and textile sectors for both large organisations and SMEs including the Coats Viyella Group.
With a background in languages, having studied French, German and Spanish, Glynis moved into export and import management gaining graduate membership of the Institute of Export and developed an interest in the training of exporters. This prompted a move into education delivering IoE professional qualification courses. An MA in International Business led to a move to The University of Huddersfield to teach a range of marketing and international marketing subjects.
As a result of her background in industry, Glynis is keen to ensure that work experience and a strong business focus is integral to the undergraduate marketing programmes for which she is Course Leader. A key element of this is the Partners in Marketing group which she established to ensure that Huddersfield marketing courses meet the needs of business and to ensure that the University and its students can benefit from close links within the industry.
Glynis has also worked closely with professional bodies, in particular the CIM in the co-ordination of a multi-pathway scheme whereby students have the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications alongside their studies.
Current research interests focus around student participation in industry competitions to support the development of employability skills and industry-ready graduates.
Previous research and links to business have led to case study-based research including the internationalisation of Debenhams and the use of a personal shopper service to enhance customer experience for Debenhams’ shoppers.
As a result of her involvement in sports marketing, Glynis was also invited to participate in a programme on BBC Wales on The State of Welsh Rugby. Her particular focus was fan experience.

Employer engagement is a key focus and Glynis works to develop partnerships with businesses to provide guest speakers, placements and graduate opportunities for students. She chairs the Partners in Marketing group which she established in 2013.
Glynis’s main teaching interests are in the areas of International Marketing and International Trade Operations at post-graduate level, which link in with previous business experience. She also has an interest in sports marketing, which is a business growth area in the UK and globally. This led to the development of the UK’s first undergraduate Sports Promotion and Marketing degree.
Recognising its increasing importance, Glynis developed a new module focusing on The Customer Experience to ensure that Huddersfield marketing students have a strong customer focus.
Course leader for undergraduate marketing courses including BA (Hons) Advertising and Marketing Communications, BA (Hons) Marketing, BA (Hons Marketing with PR, BA (Hons) Global Marketing (Top-up) and BA (Hons) Sports Promotion & Marketing.
Glynis is also involved in undergraduate recruitment within the department and in a cross-school role. A keen interest in business placements has led to the role of ‘Placement Champion’ for the department.

Has undertaken External Examiner role sat Leeds University Business School and at University of York St Johns. Formerly External Examiner for marketing and purchasing modules at the University of North London.
Glynis also has experience in acting as an external panel member on validations and subject reviews for postgraduate courses
