I am a Lecturer in the child nursing team. My clinical experience is in general paediatrics, particularly with responsibilities in the management of high dependency beds within a district general setting. During my time in clinical practice I have been involved in various service improvement initiatives including leading the productive ward programme for a 35 bedded unit and in developing and implementing training programmes for qualified staff. I am an experienced mentor and sign off mentor and have facilitated many newly qualified staff during preceptorship. I have a strong working knowledge of current practice and have strong links with practice areas. I hold a postgraduate certificate in health professional education and I am registered with the NMC as a teacher.
As part of my master’s dissertation I have carried out a study into the attitudes of children’s nurses toward health promotion for overweight children, during hospital admissions. This has been published in Nursing Children and Young people and has been presented a national and international conference.
I am now working towards a PhD, studying the impact of advanced life support training in nurses on the care of children.
I am interested in supervising undergraduate and master’s students on projects around the following subjects;
I am the associate for children’s nursing on the undergraduate modules HFG 1000 (Professional development and research), HFN 2002 (Fundamentals of Nursing Practice) and HIN 2000 (Nursing concepts and care approaches). I teach the child nursing students across the 3 year BSc Nursing programme. I am also a module associate on the post reg top up module HHH2004 (Project for Healthcare Professionals). I am the moderator for HFN 2000 (Foundations of Nursing 1). I am an admissions tutor for BSc Nursing (children). I am the link tutor for the children’s unit, diabetes nurses and epilepsy nurses at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS trust and several health visiting teams in Calderdale and Mid Yorkshire.
