Barnaby joined the IRR in April 2016. He was apprentice trained as a multi-disciplined (mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation) maintenance fitter on a large coal-fired power station, later graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2008 with an honours degree (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering. During his degree he specialised in wind energy. Barnaby then served as Technical Engineer for Veolia on the Sheffield District Energy Network for 2 years, and as a Test Engineer for AES Seal, a manufacturer of mechanical seals and support systems, for 5 years.
Barnaby’s main responsibilities involve the operation, maintenance and administration of the laboratories and test equipment in the Centre for Innovation in Rail, including the handover and commissioning of the new 50 tonne rolling contact dynamics test rig.
