Biography

Donna joined the University of Huddersfield in June 2016 as a lecturer in mental health nursing. Preceeding this Donna’s role was within the NHS in Leeds, focusing upon embedding Care Programme Approach and good practice in care planning into clinical practice within a large NHS Partnership Trust. This follows clinical roles both within community, crisis and in-patient settings since qualifying as a mental health nurse in 1996.

Donna’s interest in education culminated in an MSc in Health Professional Education in 2009; during which time she undertook a lecturer practitioner role at the Univeristy of Huddersfield

 

 

 

Research and Scholarship

Donna is particularly interested in:

  • Collaborative care planning and the exploration of the barriers and enablers to this
  • Service user and carer involvement
  • Shared decision making
  • Recovery focussed practice

Current Research Involvement:

  • Donna is studying towards a PhD; the title of the project is End-User Priorities for the components of Community Mental Health Care Plan Pro formas in England and Wales: A mixed Methods Approach
  • Donna is partnering with a colleague in Occupational Therapy to explore the resons why students choose the University of Huddersfield as their education provider. This is a qualitative piece of research that will inform the recruitment of Mental Health Nurses and Occupational Therapists. The project is titled: An exploration into the influencing factors contributing to deciding to study Mental Health Nursing and Occupational Therapy at the University of Huddersfield.
  • Donna is also invoved in qualitative research, exploring the experiences of the first cohort of MSc students completing the nursing route. This important research will help to ensure that the student experience is optimal within the MSc route.
