Dimitrios received his BEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham in 2012. His final year dissertation was on the dynamic response of the wheel/track system based on a model of a beam on elastic foundation for the track.
During the summer of 2011, he did an Engineering Research Placement sponsored by the Nuffield Foundation investigating and measuring vibration from trams in Nottingham.
Following his undergraduate degree, in July 2013 he joined the Dynamics Group of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton as a PhD student, under the supervision of Prof. David J. Thompson and Dr Mohammed F.M. Hussein. His thesis, entitled “Analytical modelling of the vibration of railway track”, focused on the improvement of analytical models for describing the behaviour of railway tracks and their influence on rolling noise, especially in terms of the lateral behavior.
Dimitrios joined the Institute of Railway Research in July 2016 as an Industrial Fellow and is currently working among others on the “Track to the future (T2F)” and “In2Rail (I2R)” projects.
