Biography

Position: Lecturer, Department of Accountancy, Finance and Economics
Qualifications: FCA, FHEA

Karen joined the University on a 0.5 contract in May 2016 after having previously taught at the University on an hourly basis.

She has taught at several Universities and training bodies in the area. 

Karen is a professionally qualified accountant (ICAEW) with a wealth of professional practice work, including big firms of chartered accountants. Latterly with RSM as a manager.

After obtaining her practising certificate she continued her career as a sole practitioner.

In addition she has been involved in the assessment processes for a variety of professional accountancy bodies.

Research and Scholarship

Karen’s research interest is in the area of student engagement with assessment criteria.

Teaching and Professional Activities

Karen currently teaches on the Tax, Accounting for Managers and Introduction to Accounting courses. 

She is an Assistant Examiner for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA)

She is also an Assistant Examiner, and writes material for the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)

She has been an Assistant Examiner for several professional bodies in previous years.
