Rebecca joined the University of Huddersfield in 2016, and is currently a Senior Lecturer within the School of Education and Professional Development. She is the course leader of the Secondary Music BA and also teaches on the Secondary PGCE course and the education modules on the BMus course.
Rebecca has gained the vast majority of her teaching experience working as a music teacher in Secondary Education for the last 10 years, predominantly as a Head of Department. She is a graduate of the university and having enjoyed a successful time here as an undergraduate, she received a first class honours degree in music. She was also the recipient of the Harry Mortimer prize for an outstanding brass musician and received final year awards for ‘significant contribution to concert life’ within the music department and the Studio Music prize for brass band arranging. Following her degree, she studied for a Masters in music performance at the Royal Northern College of Music before returning to the university to complete her PGCE in Secondary Education.
A significant factor behind Rebecca’s teaching philosophy is the importance of her own development as a practising musician. She is currently principal trombone of the Fairey Band and also regularly composes and arranges music for some of the country’s leading brass ensembles. She has been commissioned to compose music for the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band and various educational projects across the country and her compositions and arrangements have been performed on BBC radio and television.
