Biography

Joanne is a Principal lecturer and the Head of Post Registration Education and sits within the division of acute care. She is a registered nurse (RN) and teacher with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Joanne began her career in Calderdale in 1987; her first staff nurse position was on a busy acute medical ward at the Royal Halifax Infirmary. She studied for her diploma in nursing studies on part time basis, then shortly afterwards moved to Calderdale’s new coronary care unit. In 1996, she went to Leeds to the cardiothoracic intensive care unit and then abroad to the Middle East working at 2 busy cardiac centres.

On returning to the UK, Joanne worked as a Clinical support nurse, a challenging role supporting junior doctors and nurses caring for critically ill individuals on general wards. In 1999, she commenced the Practice experience co-coordinator at Calderdale, which involved a key link between the University and practice, supporting and developing learning opportunities within practice. Her studies included BSc and MSc - Health Professional Education. In 2004, she became a lecturer/practitioner prior to undertaking a full time role in education in 2005.
