Biography

Current Position Subject leader for Architecture
Joined the University in 1998 as half time senior Lecturer

1999-2000
Worked for Hodder Associates. Architect’s based in Manchester

2000-2004
Full time senior Lecturer in Architecture. Joint Course Leader for undergraduate course. First Year Tutor for all design modules and second year Architecture Studio and History and Theory Module Leader. Responsible for administration of First year and general pastoral care of all undergraduate students.

2000-2003
Partner in practice Bareham Meddings Architects based in Leeds.

2004-date
Principal Lecturer, Subject Area Leader for Architecture responsible for course development, academic management, subject delivery, etc.

Primary area of research interest is Teaching and Learning Architecture

Key achievements primarily in teaching and learning architecture, Architecture course development at parts 1, 2 and 3, Architectural technology course development Sustainable Architecture course development.

Also serve as a member on various committees/groups at RIBA:

  • as member of the validation group undertaking validation visits as validation panel member and chair to Schools of Architecture in the UK and Internationally;
  • as a member of the New Courses and Course Changes Group, scrutinising applications for new courses and course changes for architecture courses in UK and Internationally;
  • as a member of the Membership Eligibility Assessment Panel at RIBA, scrutinising applications for membership from non UK based architects.

Formerly served on RIBA Regional Council and chair of Huddersfield Society of Architects between 1996 - 2012

Research and Scholarship

Architectural Education
Currently undertaking an EdD entitled Techniques of Dialogue and Guided Reflection in Architectural Education.
Research focuses on processes of learning architecture, mentoring and studio culture, professional development.

Esteem
