After working in industry as a menswear designer, I followed my great interest into digital design and textiles and began a PhD at the University of Huddersfield. I completed my PhD entitled An Exploration of Digital Technology over a Number of Manipulated Textile Surfaces in September 2010. I took a Senior Lecturer post in January 2007 in digital design and printed textiles for the BA/BSc (Hons) Textile Practice.
PhD Title: An Exploration of Digital Technology over a Number of Manipulated Textile Surfaces
My PhD research highlights some of the innovative possibilities with applying a hand crafted approach to ink jet technology for textiles, it demonstrate the control of colour, resist effects and the sensitivity of design which can be achieve using these new processes. This research investigated a crafted approach to digital design, as well discussing the potential for reproducing the complex textile craft techniques and digital resist effects generated in this work, using CAD and ink jet technology. I have already presented this research at a number of international conferences, and will continue to exhibit and present with my complete research findings.
My research interests in to a crafted approach to digital textile print technology are continuing to be developed through under and post graduate teaching, with the future interest of setting up and business enterprise linked with the University of Huddersfield.
