Biography

Steve Lui graduated with a Bsc (Hons) in Chemistry and Biology. He gained his first MSc in Medicinal Chemistry at Loughborough University of Technology. Following graduation Steve worked as an Embryologist for a number of years within Yorkshire and published a number of papers on the attitudes and motivations of sperm and egg donors. He taught at the University of Bradford and conducted research into smoking cessation and substance misuse; subsequently he did his second Msc in Health Sciences at York University. He published a number of reviews with the Cochrane Collaboration (the Drug and alcohol, Schizophrenia and Wound groups).

Steve joined the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield in 2010. Steve has completed his PhD with Professor Eric Blyth and Dr Kathleen Chirema on “Infertility patients’ motivation for and experiences of cross border reproductive services: an asynchronous online investigation”.

Steve contributes to the development of the research agenda for the School and is currently working with Professor Alex Hirschfield on “Process Review and evaluation of multimodal passengers’ terminals’ resilience for counter terrorism”. He teaches both at undergraduate and postgraduate level and contributes to research ethics and methodology.

Enterprise Activities

Steve worked with local Hospital Trusts (Calderdale and Huddersfield) and third sectors on Substance Misuse. He also collaborates with colleagues from University of Maryland, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Australian Catholic University.

Administrative Responsibilities

Steve is the branch chairperson for the University College Union (UCU) and attends both regional and national meetings. He is an elected member of the University Senate, School Research Ethics panel and a member for the Centre for Applied Psychological and Health Research.
