I have been working at the University of Huddersfield since 2002 and currently a senior lecturer in the Division of Acute Care (Operating Department Practice). I am a registered ODP with the Health and Care Professions Council and also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am the admissions tutor and module leader for the BSc(Hons)Operating Department Practice which was validated in 2013, a progressive development both for the profession and for the University.

After qualification as an ODP in 1990 I was employed as a practitioner for 12 years in both the surgical and anaesthetic roles at Leeds Hospitals Trust. This covered many elective surgical specialities and also acute 24 hour care. I was also a member of the liver transplant team for 5 years caring for critically ill patients through this life changing procedure. I then moved into an education role within the theatre department supporting both student ODPs and nurses through a variety of courses.

I attended Cardiff University to complete a postgraduate diploma in Perioperative Care. During my time here I have completed a Masters in Health Studies and am currently working towards a PhD.
