Biography

Qualifications: CertEd, MEd, MSc, FHEA

Liz joined the University of Huddersfield in 2003 and is a Senior Lecturer at the University in the School of Education and Professional Development. She is a course tutor on the Pre-service PGCE (PCET) and is personal tutor for trainees wanting to teach Heath and Social Care, Sport, Science and related subjects. She also teaches on the BA in Education and Training programme and is involved with the In-service PGCE (PCET), having DALO responsibilities for two colleges in the PCET Consortium.

Liz qualified and worked as a nurse prior to embarking on her teaching career. Before coming to the University, she worked in Further Education colleges teaching on a range of courses and specialising in Health Studies, Early Years and Access programmes. She then moved into initial teacher training and CPD working closely with colleagues to develop teaching and learning through her role as a teacher trainer and Advanced Skills tutor.

Liz has a Masters degree in Education and an MSc in Multimedia and Education.

Liz also has a keen interest in palliative care and the work of the Hospice movement. She has enjoyed a long association with Overgate Hospice in Elland, and has served on the hospice Board of Directors for over 15 years.

Research and Scholarship

Liz’s research interests include: the expression of ideas through metaphorical modelling and kinaesthetic techniques, the use of creative visual research methods and the transitions of teacher educators into the research community of higher education. She also has research interests in Work Based Learning.

Liz is currently exploring research possibilities within Hospice settings looking at working relationships and support for Volunteers in Specialist Professional environments. Within that work she is hoping to apply innovative research methods and facilitate the development of research capacity in the hospice setting.

Teaching and Professional Activities

Liz is a course tutor on the Pre-service PGCE (PCET) and is personal tutor for trainees wanting to teach Heath and Social Care, Sport, Science and related subjects. Within the PGCE programme, Liz has particular responsibility for mentor training and teaching practice placements. Liz also teaches on the BA in Education and Training programme, Introduction to Research Methods module and is involved with the In-service PGCE (PCET), having DALO responsibilities for two colleges in the PCET Consortium.
