Rupert Ward is a former Special Adviser to HRH The Duke of York, KG, and Project Lead for The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award. He is a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He co-authored the University’s highly successful assessment and feedback strategy, and has been part of teams recognised nationally for assessment and feedback (Highly Commended, ICT Innovation of the Year, THE Leadership & Management Awards), student experience (National Acquisitions Group Award for Excellence and Guardian Award for Student Experience), customer service excellence and enterprise. He has broad research interests in physics, computing, technology enhanced learning (especially international higher education development), quality enhancement and the student experience. He is also an avid learner and has completed six postgraduate qualifications across a range of disciplines.
Rupert is Professor of Learning Innovation and Associate Dean (International) within the School of Computing and Engineering. He is a board member of the Council for Professors and Heads of Computing and a member of the BCS Accreditation Committee, a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer, Chartered IT Professional and a Chartered Scientist.
His research can be split into two main areas related to the use of computational technologies. The first is fundamental theoretical and atomic physic research, where electron trajectories, resonances and collisions are modelled and analysed computationally. The second broader area relates to technology enhanced process improvement including research in technology enhanced learning, technology acceptance of virtual and social computing environments, autonomous systems, transformative technologies, portfolio use and organisational technology strategy.
