Allocation of research hours subject to auditable research plan

 

Schedule of hours determined at local level in accordance with subject norms/activity

Includes:

 

Lectures, seminars and tutorials, and undertaking laboratory, studio and specialist workshop teaching and demonstrating;

Leading, teaching and supervising in connection with fieldwork and residential courses;

Scheduled supervision of research students, and other students undertaking project, dissertation, and assignment work;

Scheduled supervision of students on placements in industry and on teaching practice;

Scheduled assessment including invigilation and feedback from assessment in timetables classes

Includes:

 

Preparation for formal scheduled teaching;

Assessment of students including setting and marking examinations.

Membership of, and attendance at, Boards of Study, Course Planning Committees, Validation and Monitoring Committees, and examiners' assessment meetings;

Personal academic guidance and counselling of students;

Development of teaching and learning methods related to formal timetabled teaching duties and responsibilities ;

General administration directly related to formal timetabled teaching;

Keeping abreast of the subject area(s) related to formal timetabled teaching duties and responsibilities;

 

Research includes:

 

Generating high quality research outputs

Applying for and securing research grant and contract income

Presenting at national and international research conferences

Supervising research degrees

Acting as internal and external examiner for research degrees

Creating IP and protect it accordingly

Refereeing for academic journals

Serving on editorial and scientific boards, learned and advisory bodies

Reviewing research grant applications for funding bodies

Research conference organisation

Reviewing books (where appropriate)

 

 

Scholarship includes:

 

Publishing text books, teaching/educational and professional articles

Enterprise activity, including:

Performing consultancy activity

Undertaking commercial testing

Promoting and undertaking the sale of access to University facilities

Social and student enterprise

Attending conferences and short courses

Proactive membership of professional body organisations

Authoring newspaper articles, columns

Acting as external examiner for taught programmes

Creating and delivering CPD short courses for employers

Establishing and managing industrial and employer links

Developing Innovative teaching methods

Develop new courses, modules

 

Includes:

 

Associated Standard SL role e.g. admissions, year tutors, course leadership

Recruitment activity

Inspection/QA management

Specific managerial roles at Grade 9+

 

 

 

ADA and EPD may extend TRA hours to reflect subject requirements.
