Huddersfield’s historic strength in research on post-16 education, training and professional practice is central to the research conducted within the Unit and we have broadened the scope of our work to develop high quality and innovative research in:

• Marginalised young people

• Educational approaches to preventing extremism and broader issues of race and ethnicity in education

• Pedagogical practices and childhood

Our Unit is unusual in its conception of educational research as not only spanning the full age range from early years to adult education, but also in its appreciation of the capacity of informal education and associated educational research to impact powerfully on the lives of communities outside formal institutions.
