Assessing Key Risk Factors for Hard to Heal Wounds
Project Lead: Dr Ross Atkinson, University of Manchester
Collaborators: Dr Karen Ousey, Dr John Stephenson, Steve Lui and Brad Williamson
Date: 2011 - 2013
A 12 month project received an award of £19,000 from the Urgo Foundation to conduct a systematic review of all the available material on surgical site infection.
This award was presented to Dr Karen Ousey at the Wounds UK Conference 2013 in the ‘hard to heal wounds’ category. The review will attempt to try and discover markers that could indicate whether or not cancer patients with secondary spinal tumours are at risk of infection following surgery to remove their tumour. Other Centre members involved in the project include Steve Lui and Dr John Stephenson, who are working alongside Consultant Spinal Surgeons at Salford Royal Hospital.
