Children’s Identity and Citizenship in Europe(CiCe)

For ten years the University of Huddersfield has worked closely with European partners as part of a network on Children’s Identity and Citizenship in Europe (CiCe). The network compromises of a professional association (http://www.cicea.eu/) and has received funding for its activities from the European Commission. From 2014-2017 Huddersfield was part of the Jean Monnet Network-funded project linking together 25 institutions in a network from 17 states that are involved in training education professionals.

Our network is concerned with citizenship education (CE) and the development of identities in young people. This multinational, multidisciplinary, cross-sectorial network adds value, achieving what could not be achieved in the area of citizenship education that is not possible at the national level alone. Dr Chris Gifford has served on the Network’s executive committee since 2011 and is leading on new funding applications. Dr Andy Mycock and Dr Peter Woodcock have been regular participants in Network events and have contributed and led on a range of Network publications. Other members of CCID, including Dr Grainne McMahon and Dr Catherine McGlynn, have presented research at the network’s annual conference.
