About our research
The centre encompasses a multi and inter-disciplinary team of research staff and students including biomedical scientists, clinical & health researchers, pharmacologists, geneticists, biochemists, forensic scientists, analytical & medicinal chemists, bioinformaticians and statisticians, ensuring a high level of innovation and collaboration who deliver excellence in research.
Research in the centre looks to identify molecules, whether they are metabolites, genetic variants, proteins or RNA and evaluates their usage as indicators of disease state or processes and encompasses several disease/conditions e.g. neurological and neurodegenerative disorders.
Biomarkers can also provide clues to the identification of novel drug targets, as well as pharmacological responses to a therapeutic intervention. The centre draws together a multi and inter-disciplinary approach to tackling many of the research questions highlighted and encompasses a wide array of specialist expertise including mass spectrometry, omics technologies and protein biochemistry.’
