The Centre for Participatory Culture hosted the Fan Studies Network Symposium at the University of Huddersfield in 2017, with scholars travelling to the event from a wide range of international destinations.
The Centre is proud to have taken over the hosting of the well-established and highly regarded, fully open access journal Participations, edited by a team led by Professors Martin Barker, Sue Turnbull and Ernest Mathijs. Both Matt Hills and Cornel Sandvoss are on the journal’s international editorial board.
The Amsterdam University Press book series, Transmedia: Participatory Culture and Media Convergence, co-series-edited by Matt Hills with Dan Hassler-Forest, has published its first three volumes, with more already in press and under commission. Future volumes will focus on fan entrepreneurs, theme park fandom and fanvids.
The first three books in the series are:
1. Fanfiction and the Author: How Fanfic Changes Popular Cultural Texts (2017), by Judith May Fathallah 2. World Building: Transmedia, Fans, Industries (2017), edited by Marta Boni
Star Wars and the History of Transmedia Storytelling (2018), edited by Sean Guynes and Dan Hassler-Forest.
