MEIS Accelerator

The UK Medium Energy Ion Scattering facility, (MEIS), uses an ion beam probe to enable the investigation of the surface structure and properties of crystalline materials as well as the high resolution depth profiling of non-crystalline nano metre thin layers.

On Campus 

Our Laboratories are in the Cockcroft Building, buiding 23 on the Campus map.  From the main university entrance, take the road on the right and it's just under the bridge, with a big MEIS sign.

Our offices are in the Edith Key Building, building 18 on the Campus map.  Go past the Cockcroft Building and take the next left turn, leading slightly downhill. At the next road junction turn right, and it's the building on the right. We are on the 1st and 2nd floors.


The University has a special arrangement with Premier Inn Huddersfield Central  (one of the closest to the University).  When making reservations please quote the code “ZR582” to receive the special rate of £65 per night (inc Breakfast).  Be careful - room prices offered by the hotel website are often cheaper than this, so check that the code does actually save you money.
