Research

Our research focuses on advancing innovative solutions to maintain skin integrity, prevent infection, and improve wound care outcomes. We develop and evaluate emerging technologies and interventions that reduce pressure-related tissue damage, combat antimicrobial resistance and promote responsible antimicrobial use in clinical practice. Our work explores novel approaches to drug delivery through the skin that enhance therapeutic effectiveness. We are also harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning to support the prediction, prevention and early identification of skin and wound complications, enabling more timely and personalised care. In addition, we investigate the application of smart fabrics and other digital health technologies to provide real-time monitoring, protection and therapeutic support, translating cutting-edge research into practical innovations that improve patient care and quality of life.

Education

We are committed to developing the next generation of clinicians, researchers and innovators through engaging, evidence-based education. Our educational portfolio includes specialist Masters level modules, professional development opportunities and the bi-annual Wounds Week programme, bringing together experts, practitioners, students and industry partners to share knowledge and advance practice. With innovative simulation-based learning, including sustainable 3D wound models, we provide realistic, hands-on educational experiences that enhance clinical decision-making, skills development and improved patient care outcomes.
