A BRIEF HISTORY

The following chronology lists significant moments in Núñez's work at the University of Huddersfield and with staff and postgraduate students. For details of publications listed, please go to the Bibliography page.
1993

Dr. Deborah Middleton meets Nicolás Núñez at CPR's Performance, Ritual and Shamanism conference in Cardiff. Dr. Ronan Fitzsimons (then a Senior Lecturer in Spanish at the University of Huddersfield) undertakes the translation into English of Núñez’s Teatro Antropocosmico.

1996

Anthropocosmic Theatre is published, with a foreword by Deborah Middleton, in the Harwood Contemporary Theatre Studies Series edited by Dr. Franc Chamberlain. The book launch is held at the University of Huddersfield.

Theatre as a Personal Rite: introductory and advanced workshops, University of Huddersfield.

Núñez speaks at Northern Exchanges 3: Performance and Community at the University of Huddersfield.

1996

1999

UK Launch of Major International Project, The Flight of Quetzalcoatl at the University of Huddersfield.

Theatre and Transformation: introductory and advanced workshops, University of Huddersfield.

Cura de Espantos performed by the TRW at Storthes Hall Campus as premiere of UK tour.

2000

Middleton leads a group of European participants (including Huddersfield Drama graduates) to Mexico for a special residential experience of The Flight of Quetzalcoatl.

Núñez and Middleton present Theatre Meets Ritual at the Cervantes Institute, Manchester.

Núñez, accompanied by Middleton and members of the TRW, presents Rediscovering Our Hidden Archetypes, workshop, lecture and performance demonstration, at the Relocating the Sacred conference, UCLAN (convened by Dr.Julie Wilson).

Núñez, accompanied by Middleton and members of the TRW, presents introductory workshops at Queens University, Belfast.

2006

Núñez, and a team of performers, including Middleton, walk the camino to Santiago de Compostela and Finisterre in Northern Spain as a training experience.

2007

Middleton joins the TRW in Mexico to act as Creative Advisor for the production, Caceria de Estrellas, which resulted from the camino experience of the previous year.

2008

Núñez and performers from the TRW work with four Drama academics from the University of Huddersfield in a residency in UNAM (Middleton, John Britton, Tim Moss, Hilary Elliott).

2009

Núñez, Helena Guardia and Middleton present work demonstrations at Tracing Grotowski’s Path, New York University (convened by Prof.Richard Schechner).

Middleton represents Núñez's work in From Poland to Huddersfield via Mexico at Theatre and Beyond: the British Grotowski Project conference, University of Kent (convened by Prof. Paul Allain).

PhD student, EilonMorris, presents Sources of Rhythm: An Anthropocosmic Enquiry at the 'Grotowski: After – Alongside – Around – Ahead' symposium at the University of Kent.

2010

Núñez is appointed Visiting Research Fellow in Drama at the University of Huddersfield with a celebratory inaugural event.

Psychophysical Actor Training with Nicolás Núñez: Introductory Workshop, University of Huddersfield.

PhD student, Karoliina Sandstrom visits Mexico to carry out research with Núñez.

PhD student Eilon Morris is funded by the Society of Latin American Studies to visit Mexico and work with Núñez at the Taller. This research contributes to the development of Morris's training form, Orbit.

2011

Adame, Domino & Stambaugh, Antonio, Jerzy Grotowski: Miradas desde Latinoamerica (Universidad Veracruzana) includes Middleton's Sacralidad Secular en el teatro ritual del Taller de Investigacion Teatral de la UNAM (pp. 109-129) alongside Núñez's De El principe constante a Esclavo por su patria (pp. 133-142)

PhD student, Karoliina Sandstrom, returns to Mexico to continue her practical research.

2012

PhD student, Karoliina Sandstrom, works alongside Núñez to train performers at the TRW, and performs in the TRW production, Conspiracion Hamlet, in Mexico City.
