Welcome to the Institute of Secure Societies (ISS), we are a collaborative, inter-disciplinary research institute at the University of Huddersfield. Our aim is to bring together research staff and students from across the University who have an interest in security, community safety and crime, with practitioners and the communities they serve.
We aim to forge links which enable collaborative working not just between professionals within the University but externally in the UK and beyond. SSI has members from across the University’s six schools and encourages collaborative working and the development of research which can be applied to help address security and community safety challenges regionally, nationally and internationally.
These challenges are as varied as violence against women and girls; sexual violence; fire safety; design for safety; health, sustainability and safety; terrorism; modern slavery; child sexual abuse; knife crime; cyber crime; safety and sustainability; hate crime; and the policing of minoritized communities.
