AI-Ready Yorkshire helps small and medium-sized businesses across Yorkshire explore how AI could improve productivity, decision-making and innovation. Over three years, at least 60 placements and graduate traineeships will connect businesses with talented students and recent graduates, supported by AI experts from CAIS.

AI-Ready Yorkshire follows a learn-and-apply model, connecting small and medium-sized businesses across Yorkshire with students and recent graduates who work on real organisational AI challenges. Projects may address productivity, automation, data analytics, predictive modelling, AI-supported decision-making or wider digital transformation.
Most opportunities involve final-year undergraduate or Master’s students undertaking a part-time placement over approximately nine months. The placement is aligned with the student’s dissertation, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a clearly defined business challenge while completing their degree.
Each student is jointly supervised by a University academic and a representative from the participating business.
Businesses may instead work with a recent graduate through a structured traineeship. This route may be suitable when a challenge does not fit readily within the scope or timescale of a dissertation, requires a longer or more flexible engagement, or would benefit from someone who has already completed their degree.
The business helps define the challenge and nominates a representative who can provide organisational context, supervision and regular engagement. There is no general requirement to provide dedicated office space or computing equipment.
Where specialist computational resources are required and can be justified, we can explore whether these can be supported through the University.
