Prof Carlos Torres Formoso

Degree in Civil Engineering awarded by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in December 1980.
M.Sc. in Construction awarded by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in July 1986, under the supervision of Dr. Luiz Fernando M. Heineck. The title of the M.Sc. dissertation was "Analysis of cost indices for the building industry".
Ph.D. awarded by the University of Salford, United Kingdom, in March 1991, under the supervision of Prof. Peter S. Brandon. The title of the Ph.D. thesis was "A knowledge based framework for planning house building projects".

Industrial experience:
Worked for three years (1981 and 1983) as a construction manager in two different construction companies.
UFRGS: member of academic staff of the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, since December 1989.
University of California, Berkeley: visiting scholar between October 1999 and September 2000.
University of Salford: visiting professor between January and September 2011.

Over 80 invited speeches and keynote presentations. Twenty-eight research grants since 1991 in the areas of quality management, lean construction, social housing and Building Information Modeling.

Current/recent grants:
In the last 3 years was awarded around £1,100,000.00 in funding for research.
Recent funded international projects and initiatives: Research Network on Safety Management in Construction, involving UFRGS and 7 other universities from 6 countries (2009-14); Improved value generation through better design process", project jointly developed with the University of Salford, and funded by the Royal Society (2010-12).

Prof Mike Kagioglou

Professor Mike Kagioglou was the Dean of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield until 2020. He was previously the Head of the School of Built Environment at Salford University. Mike was the Director of the £8M EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Salford Centre for Research and Innovation (SCRI) in the built and human environment and the Academic Director for the £11M EPSRC funded interdisciplinary IMRC in Health and Care Infrastructures Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC) for Salford University. He has published more than 150 academic referred papers, many industrial reports and two books. Mike has taken part in international evaluations and consultancy activity in a number of countries. His recent research related to benefits realisation and how such processes and disciplines can elicit user requirements and how they can be used for more efficient programme and project management. The application of such research was within healthcare infrastructure and redevelopment projects. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Senior Associate of the Royal Academy of Medicine (RAM).

Prof Lauri Koskela

Professor Lauri Koskela is invited to participate as an internationally renowned expert in advanced project management and allied fields. He joined the University of Huddersfield in October 2014 when he was nominated Professor of Construction and Project Management. Previously he worked at the University of Salford as Professor of Lean, Theory Based Project and Production Management. Prior that he was involved in applied research at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Since 1991, Lauri has been involved in research on lean construction. He is a founding member of the International Group for Lean Construction. His research has focused especially on the underlying theories of production management as well as project and design management. He is one of the most cited scholars in construction management and allied fields.

Dr Luciana Miron

Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1994), master's (2002) and doctorate (2008) at the Graduate Program in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Professor at the School of Architecture (since 2006) and the Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning (since 2011) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She served as a counselor in the Council for Economic and Social Development of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (2013-2014). She has experience in the area of Architecture, Engineering and Construction, with emphasis on Design Process Management, acting on the following topics of research: marketing applied to the construction, customer requirements management, value generation, perceived value, evaluations of social housing projects, development process product, management and development of urban and regional projects.

Professor Eduardo Isatto

Professor Eduardo Isatto is Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a member of the Building Innovation Research Unit (NORIE/UFRGS) since 1997. During this time he has been deeply involved in research on the application of lean production to the context of construction industry. His research have included a wide range of different fields as project management, production systems design, procurement and supply chain management, production processes development, quality and cost management, and ICT/BIM. Eduardo has taken part in a number of national and international research projects aiming at productivity and quality improvement of the built environment, and published about 50 academic referred papers, 4 book chapters, and co-authored two books. His teaching experience includes post graduate courses in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia, as well as international courses on construction project management to students from USA, Turkey, Israel and Brazil. He is the Finance Director of the National Association of the Built Environment (ANTAC), in Brazil.
