The intention in establishing this register is to capture as much UK child protection research as possible. That said, there are a small number of criteria that to be met for research projects to be accepted to the register:
Criteria
- The research must involve the collection of original data - although research based upon secondary analysis of existing data is acceptable. Literature reviews are not acceptable.
- The register is concerned with both completed and ongoing research. It is also acceptable to submit details of research projects that have not yet started but will definitely be going ahead at some point in the future.
- At least some of the data collection has to have taken place in the UK.
- Researchers who are based outside the UK, but who have undertaken a child protection study where some of the data collection was carried out in the UK, should submit their work to the register.
- There are now no date restrictions concerning the research that can be submitted to the register i.e. the dates when the research was conducted or published are irrelevant.
- If the research is not already published, then there has to be a serious intention and capability to do this in the future. The exact publication format is not critical but the results of the research have to be written up and available (either now or in the future) publically (this includes standard academic outputs).
- Submitted research projects do not have to be concerned exclusively with child protection but child protection should be an important element in the work.
- PhD-based (but NOT Master's-based) research should be submitted to the register.
