Dr Bernard Gallagher, Director of the register project, is a Reader in Social Work and Applied Social Sciences, in the Centre for Applied Childhood Studies, and the Division of Social Work at the University of Huddersfield. He has been involved in child protection research for the past 25 years. He has been the Principal Investigator on a number of major research projects, including studies of organised child sexual abuse (CSA); the sexual abuse of children by strangers; the attrition of cases of child abuse and neglect in the criminal justice system; and international and internet CSA. He has in addition been involved in research on looked after children, and studies of child welfare and child victimisation more generally.

Claire Fraser is now Programme Manager and Research Associate on the NIHR-funded EQUIP programme, University of Manchester. Her research over the last 15 years has focused on a number of areas within health and social care and she has particular expertise in the following areas: children and young people, parents and families, especially in the context of complex family situations; mental health; child protection, abuse prevention, and service provision for survivors of abuse and their families; and generally, researching sensitive topics and service user involvement in research. Claire worked with Bernard in collating data for the first volume of the Register, from 2002 - 2004, whilst employed as Research Fellow in the Centre for Applied Childhood Studies. She has more recently been involved in the development the register website.
