Paul Tallon is a Product Design BSc(Hons) graduate working for 3M BIC. The purpose-built 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC) in Huddersfield facilitates business growth, encourages business to academia collaboration and actively promotes innovation. The talk primarily is about the structure of the work Paul does covering 3D design, visualisation, innovation in the field of VR and AR and prototyping.


KTP and Paxman Collaboration

Chris Sorbie is a Product Design graduate currently working as a KTP associate with Paxman Coolers and also studying his MA by Research at the University of Huddersfield. The aim of the KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) scheme is to apply academic knowledge for the direct commercial benefit of business. KTP is a national scheme led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The KTP scheme enables a company to become more innovative, effective and efficient. It aims to boost profits and commercial value, with the input of an academic expert. It covers all disciplines, technical and non-technical, spanning both science and technology through to the arts.

Chris will present what the KTP project involves and his experience as a postgraduate student and researcher since completing his Product Design degree. The presentation will also covers the design and development of a 21st century cooling cap system which offers a much better fit to all head shapes, uses 3D printed tooling technologies, mass manufacturing issues using silicone sheet technology.
